Joining with team poker events can be an excellent way to experience the excitement and thrill of live poker play. You will be able to share the costs of entering the event and have an essential support structure in place to pull off a big win. Team poker is a little different from standard poker but is very rewarding for players of all skills.
Team Scores
In most online poker tournaments you will be awarded points for where you finish in the tournament. These points will increase the further you manage to play into the rounds. All your team player points are added to your overall team score. There is also a big bonus for coming out as the overall winner and also sometimes points for making it to the final round. These bonus points are really important as it could make all the difference to a team score where other players have not performed so well.
The winners will be the team with the highest score. The prize poker pots for team events can be very generous and don’t forget these will need to be shared out by everyone. Even if you were the one who took your team to the top of the leader board everyone played their part and so deserves to share the proceeds.
Team Support
You need to be there for your team mates. If you get points on where you finish then you need to make sure as many of you as possible make it through to the later stages of the tournament. If you have accumulated a big stack then keep an eye out for team mates that are struggling.
There are several useful strategies that can allow you to pass on chips to boost their game play. It may feel a bit uncomfortable giving away your precious poker chips. However this does mean that if you are struggling one of your team mates will return the favour and help you out. Top tips for passing poker chips include:
- Blind Dump – if you are small blind and they are the big then you can dump chips to them quite easily. Just wait for the right opportunity (table has folded) and then fold the small blind. They can then collect the chips for their stack.
- Call Dump – another option is to wait until you can call and then fold, passing them the full blind. This should become a standard procedure that each team member can look out for if they start getting into trouble.
